About Outage History

Outage History is an independent public-interest research prototype that preserves public Hydro-Quebec outage observations to help understand interruptions across time and place.

Data sources

Live and Planned reflect Hydro-Quebec's public Info-pannes feeds as available when requested. Archive contains feed captures retained by pannes.ca since collection began. Context adds published access-to-information documents when they are available.

What the archive means

The archive is not Hydro-Quebec's complete official history for an address. It contains only observations that pannes.ca successfully collected and retained; collection gaps, source changes, and imperfect grouping are possible. Nearby results are evidence within a 5 km radius, not proof for the exact address.

Address, location, and privacy

No account is required. Here is what leaves your browser and what stays on it.

Typed searches are sent to pannes.ca. On a cache miss, the address is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service for geocoding. The normalized address and returned coordinates are retained in the project's geocoding and address cache so a repeat search can avoid another lookup.

Current location is requested only after browser permission. Its coordinates are sent to pannes.ca and placed in the page URL so reload and language switching work; they may also be retained in the same address cache.

Compared addresses are stored only in this browser's local storage; Clear removes that list. The service worker caches only static application files for installation and offline fallback, not search-result pages.

Hosting and application logs may contain the IP address, requested path, country or edge location, user agent, response timing, and a URL that can include a search or coordinates. They are used for security and diagnosis. pannes.ca currently uses no accounts, advertising, analytics trackers, or application cookies.

Geocoding-cache entries are deleted after 30 days. Use the contact address below to ask what is retained for an address or to request its removal.

Limitations

Hydro-Quebec polygons are approximate, public feeds can change or contain anomalies, and disclosure documents only cover published requests. This project is neither official nor affiliated with Hydro-Quebec.
